People don't care how much you know until they know how much you care
Civic virtue is not best justified in terms of fair play in a cooperative enterprise for mutual advantage, because citizenship is not a strictly reciprocal relationship in which people receive benefits in proportion to their contributions, but a joint relationship that realizes the common good of freedom and self-government.
The nature of the modern world is its interdependence. both people with each other across vast swaths of land and around the corner and across oceans and people with the Earth. But interdependence can be good or bad or both. Human nature being what it is, it's usually both. All interdependence means is that divorce is not an option. Divorce may be an option for two people, but you'll still be interdependent.
On behalf of the British people I salute the skill and courage which have brought man to the moon. May this endeavour increase the knowledge and well-being of mankind.
